In order to be a youth hostel manager, one needs to have degree or diploma in any hospitality ?related course which is provided by many private and public institutes. Most managers start as assistant managers and with relevant work experience work up their way to become deputy and senior managers.
? Assist the GM in day to day operations
? Assign duties to Head Of Departments and observe performance to ensure standards are being kept
? Assist GM in delivering training
? Selects or assists in the selection of hostel staff and completes all new hire paperwork and ensures the updating of the company HRMI system.
? Maintains accurate records including cash flows sheet, guest floor limit, AR aging reports, direct billing etc.
? Adheres to all franchise and company procedures and regulations as well as standard operating procedures.
? Ensure full compliance to Hostel operating controls, SOP?s, policies, procedures and service standards.
? Assist GM in key property issues including capital projects, customer service and refurbishment.
? Performs daily, weekly and monthly property inspections.
? Builds strong working relationships and communications with hostel staff, HOD's and other departments to ensure maximum operating effectiveness and fulfilment of special event needs.
? Audits on par stock on all areas to make sure that all required hostel supplies are ordered and stocked in advance.
? Provide effective leadership to hostel team members.
? Ensures effective, timely and accurate communications flow with regards to hostel policies and procedures.
? All other[1] duties as assigned by the General Manager or Management.
? Oversees reception and all tasks and responsibilities associated with that role
